The PraC-MARENG Plus project was presented during the XIII International Staff Week hosted by the Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT), an international event that gathered 60 representatives from universities in 22 countries to strengthen international cooperation, mobility opportunities, and future collaborative initiatives.
During the event, project representatives from UPCT, including Elena Muñoz, presented PraC-MARENG Plus as an example of fruitful international cooperation developed through academic and institutional collaboration. The project brings together partners from Spain, Croatia, Ireland, Lithuania, Romania, and Türkiye to develop a standardised and practice-oriented maritime English training programme for port personnel and shore-based maritime professionals.
PraC-MARENG Plus addresses an important training gap in the maritime sector. While maritime English and the Standard Maritime Communication Phrases are widely embedded in seafarer training, communicative preparation for shore-based maritime professionals remains limited. The project aims to respond to this need by developing innovative, practical, and sector-relevant learning resources aligned with real operational communication requirements.
The presentation at UPCT provided an important opportunity to introduce the project to an international academic audience and to highlight its contribution to maritime education, vocational training, and international cooperation.
The project will also be presented at the University Open Day on 16 May 2026, where further dissemination activities and media materials will be shared.
