Effective communication between ships and shore-based services is a cornerstone of safe, secure, and efficient port operations. Despite this, many communication challenges in shore and port operational environments remain under-researched and under-addressed in current maritime training.
Within this context, the PraC-MARENG Plus project has launched a short survey aimed at identifying real-world English communication needs and challenges faced by professionals and learners working in port and shore-based maritime settings.
The survey is open to:
Maritime professionals working in ports or shore-based operations
Maritime English teachers and trainers
Maritime and logistics students
The collected data will play a crucial role in the development of a practice-oriented training course built around authentic scenarios and operational realities. This course will be freely available to universities and maritime institutions, supporting improved communication, reduced operational delays, and enhanced safety in port environments.
Completing the survey takes approximately 5 minutes, and all responses are anonymous, used exclusively for research and curriculum development purposes.
Stakeholder input is essential to ensure that future maritime communication training reflects actual operational needs rather than theoretical assumptions. By participating, respondents directly contribute to shaping more effective, relevant, and accessible training resources for the maritime sector.
